  2. “HSMC-RC” – for residents in the Residential College
  3. “HSMC-FreeWIFI” – for guests
  4. “eduroam” – for eduroam users

Campus Wi-Fi Issue FAQs

Connection Problem

No HSMC SSID found

1. Ensure the location has Wi-Fi coverage

Check if you are connecting to HSMC-WIFI, HSMC-WIFI enjoy a better network accessibility.

2. Check if your device Wi-Fi connection has been enabled

3. Disable and re-enable your device Wi-Fi connection

4. Move to other areas to retry

5. Mark the time and location, then report to ITSC

Cannot connect HSMC-Wi-Fi

  1. Ensure the location has Wi-Fi coverage
  2. Check if your device Wi-Fi connection has been enabled
  3. Disable and re-enable your device Wi-Fi connection
  4. Restart your device
  5. Forget or reset HSMC-Wi-Fi network in your device and input your login ID and password
  6. Check if your password has been changed in HSMC computers
  7. Mark the time and location, then report to ITSC

Cannot access some Internet services

1.Ensure your device has connected to network
Check if you are connecting to HSMC-WIFI, HSMC-WIFI enjoy a better network accessibility.
2.Move to other location and try to open other websites
3.Report to ITSC with connected SSID, location, time and the services being accessed (some Internet services are not allowed, i.e. BT & P2P services)

The website has been blocked

  1. The website is regarded as a suspicious website
  2. Contact ITSC, if you consider it as a false protection

The website shows an error message

  1. If it shows an error code, i.e. 404, 500 & etc, it should be server side problem
  2. Close and restart your browser
  3. Try to use other browsers
  4. Use other browser to try
  5. Disable and re-enable your device Wi-Fi connection
  6. Report to ITSC with connected SSID, location, time and the URL

The website is continuously loading and nothing shows

  1. Ensure Wi-Fi single is good
  2. If not, disable and re-enable your device Wi-Fi connection or move to other location
  3. Restart your browser
  4. Report to ITSC with connected SSID, location, time and the URL

Slow & Unstable Connection

The website has slow response or cannot show some pictures

  1. Ensure Wi-Fi single is good
  2. Check if you are connecting to HSMC-WIFI, HSMC-WIFI has a faster connection speed then other SSID(s)
  3. If the website is still loading, please wait for loading complete
  4. Reload the website again
  5. Try to access other website to compare the loading speed
  6. If other website loading speed is normal, then it should be server side problem
  7. Otherwise, restart your browser, device Wi-Fi connection or move to other location
  8. Report to ITSC with connected SSID, location and time.

Wi-Fi is suddenly disconnected

  1. Ensure Wi-Fi single is good
  2. Check if your device has network sleeping mode
  3. Disable and re-enable your device Wi-Fi connection
  4. Restart your device
  5. Report to ITSC with connected SSID, location and time.
