Staff News – Feedback on Online Teaching

Dear Colleagues,
ITSC has run the 10 workshop on Microsoft Teams and have over 200 participants.  The responses are positive, and some teachers have already started their online teaching classes this week.
ITSC would like to gather feedback from you.  Specifically, some teachers have requested us to combine groups of students into 1 large team to allow students with flexibility to select different sessions.

Student News – Launching of Microsoft Teams

ITSC正式啟動 Microsoft Teams 支援網上教學 (下載使用指引) 。

我們在星期一開始,陸續為老師提供培訓。這個星期起,
老師會開始使用 Teams 進行網上教學,安排如下:

1. ITSC 已在 Microsoft Teams 開設課堂頻道。
當你登入時,就可以看到相關課堂 (例:ICT2002-L01)。

2. 老師會盡量根據原先時間表,安排網課。同學可在原定時間,
登入 Teams並進入課堂。同學也可透過Moodle,老師電郵,
或電郵查詢個別老師的上課安排。

3. 請即下載及安裝在電腦及手機,登入後選擇Teams ,就見到課堂。

ITSC has launched Microsoft Teams to support online teaching.

Starting this Monday, ITSC will be providing training to teachers.
Teachers will start using Teams to host online classes:

1. ITSC has created Classrooom channels in Microsoft Teams
When you logon, you will see your lessons (e.g., ICT2002-L1).

2. Teachers are encouraged to hold online classes according to
the timetable.  Students may enter Teams and the lesson accordingly.
Students may contact their teachers via email or Moodle to
verify the time of online classes.

3. Please download and install Microsoft Teams on your computer
and mobile phone.  Once login, you will find your lessons in <Teams>:

If you cannot login, or you find a wrong list of students.
Please click the following link to report your problem.

Lastly, we would like to seek your help.  Please forward this

Staff News – Microsoft Teams User Guide

Dear Colleagues,

ITSC has prepared a Microsoft Team User Guide to be a quick reference:
1. To learn to use Chat for messaging and setting up chat groups.
2. To learn how to schedule a meeting and conduct an online teaching class.
ITSC has done an internal training (in Cantonese).  You may watch the recording.
Finally, users have reported some problems with Microsoft Teams.  We have
found solutions.   If you or students have any problems, call ITSC (x160).
a. Microsoft Teams Licenses not activated
b. Sign-in error – You need to be invited to Teams as a guest
c. Some classes are missing.
d. Some students are missing from you class list.

1. I want to upload files, setting up quizzes, and collecting assignments?
Moodle is still our most important learning management system.  Use Moodle.

2. I would like to hold online live teaching classes?
Microsoft Teams is a powerful online meeting and group communications platform.
We have opened online classes for every lesson already.  Forget about Zoom!

3. I need to send instant messages to my students and colleagues?
Microsoft Teams has a Chatgroup function similar to WhatsApp/Hangouts.
You don’t your their mobile numbers to send messages to them!
You can call audio/video meetings at any time.  Try it out.

4. I am not familiar with Microsoft Teams or other software tools?
ITSC has arranged an online workshop next Monday to Friday.
You may also come back to campus to attend (M803, M building).

5. I want to hold web seminars for admission or talks?
We recommend ZOOM which is more convenient with external guests.

6. I want to record my lecture and show to students?
Microsoft Teams allows you to do live recording.  If you speak English,
it will generate English captions automatically!   After the lesson, your
recording will be placed on Microsoft Stream for live streaming.  You may
also upload your video files to Microsoft stream show them during live lesson.

7. I need students to submit video projects.

You may ask them to upload their video files to Microsoft Stream, and place a link
to Moodle.  Call ITSC for more details.

8. I need to remote access to my office computer.
ITSC may help you set up your office computer that you can access from home.

9. I need a Web Camera for live teaching.

We have purchased a number of web cameras. Teachers may borrow from ITSC.
    We encourage teachers to use notebook and tablet if possible.

10. I need to receive office calls from home
For those who work and provide services from home, you may request ITSC to
forward your desktop phone to your mobile number.
11. I have some questions and want quick help or answers.
ITSC has set up a LiveChat service on our ITSC website.  You may post questions
and our colleagues will answer them during office hours.

12. I don’t know how to set up my notebook, tablet or mobile phone
ITSC is pleased to provide onsite service in M805, Main building.  Please bring
your device and we will help you set it up.

Staff News – New ITSC support during campus suspension period

Dear Colleagues,

To tackle unexpected interruptions to the university, ITSC has developed
an ITSC Business Development Plan (BCP) to support the university to
continue our core operations.  You may refer to the attached file for details.

Below, we would like to highlight 8 New Measures for home office and online teaching, in addition to the existing functions (Moodle, eCampus, Connect, Zoom etc.)

Online Teaching / Home Office

1. Communications – We will be launching Microsoft Teams to support messaging, chatgroups, and online video meetings.   You may set up chat groups and hold meeting with students.  (Download and use Teams from this link – https://teams.microsoft.com/downloads)

2. Live Video Lessons – Microsoft Teams also support live video meetings with screen sharing, video conferencing, and instant polling/survey.  ITSC can help you set up your notebook and lessons.   https://products.office.com/zh-hk/microsoft-teams/group-chat-software

3. Web cameras – We will be purchasing and providing one web camera
for each teacher.  Teachers who need them may contact ITSC.

4. Call forwarding – For those who do home office and provide services
to students, you may request ITSC to forward your desktop phone to
your mobile number.

5. Remote Access to your desktop – Some staff may want to access
their campus desktop computer from home.  You may request ITSC to set up
remote access via a web browser.

6. Large Scale Live Web Events – Some departments/offices may organise
large web events that people can attend from a remote site, viewing video
and asking questions.  You may request ITSC to set up these events.

7. ITSC LiveChat Support – ITSC has set up a LiveChat service on our
ITSC website.  You are welcome to post questions and our colleagues
will answer them (in office or from home) during office hours.

8. Onsite setup and 1-1 training – ITSC will have some staff to provide onsite service
in M805, Main building.  You may bring a notebook or mobile device and we
will set up some service for you (lesson recording, live video lesson, messaging and chat, etc.)
